Change

Moving doesn’t change who you are, it just changes the view outside your window. Rachel Hollis

I’ve been thinking about change a lot lately. The nature of change makes life impossible to predict. Yet, it’s inevitable. Having searched for a home in the West Hartford and surrounding areas for nearly two years, losing a few to multiple offers, I released the idea of staying local, jumped off the emotional roller coaster of searching and set my sights on a new area all together…a planned community in Massachusetts. The area is lovely, with relatives close by and the ocean. Only one problem, the developer hadn’t opened up the lots yet. The next step was to get on the wait list.

Then, out of the blue, an interesting, red “barn-like” home came up locally warranting a drive by. Maybe there was still a chance? An appointment followed and much to my surprise, goosebumps. But what about the beautiful lot near the ocean?

Back to unpredictability. Sometimes when you surrender and let go of pushing for something, exactly what you hoped for lands in your lap. An offer followed by an acceptance is keeping me local. I’m excited and I’m trusting the process, suspending worry and riding the wave of change and impermanence.

Change is always right around the corner for all of us. “The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.” Alan Watts

Practicing self-care in the coming weeks will be key to my mental and physical well-being. I plan to call in an army of self-care resources to support me: lots of deep breaths, yoga, meditation, healthy eating, moments of stillness, walks in nature and support from loved ones. And, most important the mindset that all I can control is how I meet each moment.

It’s all a dance. Diane
