Space
I’ve been thinking about space a lot lately. The vast space of the sky. The space that air occupies. The space between trees that allow for growth. The space in my mind and tummy. The space geographically between myself and my children. Space is everywhere. Most notably, the more spacious home I moved to nestled on a hill in the woods. The space has made all the difference in how I feel each and every day. It’s been a game changer.
My new home isn’t enormous but it does maximize space with vaulted ceilings and an open floor plan that flows seamlessly from one room to the next. In comparison my last home was definitely too small. When my husband was working and traveling it was worked, but COVID stopped all his travel. We quickly saw it wasn’t going to be easy living in a 2 BR/1 bath house day in and day out. He didn’t have an office, so the second bedroom was converted and when he needed a break, he was sitting in my office (part of the great room). The noise from traffic and sirens also rattled my nervous system. I rarely felt at peace.
It’s amazing what a more space can do for the soul. I’m now blessed to have a small yoga room, meditation space (converted walk in closet) and my office is in a nook in the primary bedroom. My heart is so full.
Which leads me to another thought. What do you get when you leave the “s” off space? Pace, the speed at which ones moves.
For me, this is the year to slow down the pace and enjoy what I love. Enjoy my space and my pace of play. Top priorities include tuning in to my senses and connecting with myself and others. I’m reminded of the quote by Howard Thurman…"Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is more people who have come alive!"
I invite you to join me in soaking up all that brings you joy and makes you feel alive. In doing so, together we can impact the lives of the people that need our collective aliveness.
It’s all a dance. Diane
